ecphoric
adjective

Pronunciation:
[ek-for-ik]

Definition:
From the medical term for one of the two stages of memory retrieval. Used to describe the process in which memory is retrieved via the "activation of latent engrams." In non-medical-student speak that is: remembering a memory which had previously been forgotten, often prompted by sensory action (smell, sight, etc.)

Usage:
"Christoph's mother was concerned for her son as he always complained of hunger when he called. Calling home was something that always seemed to slip Christoph's mind and he was only reminded to do so by the ecphoric smell of garlic lamb wafting in from his neighbour's window every Saturday night."

Etymology:
Adjective of "ecphoria", coined by Richard Semon in 1904. From the Greek "Ek" meaning "out" and "phora" meaning "carrying."

- Love Tahlia, who forgets a lot of shit and always experiences ecphoria when the RSVP has passed.
