To groak is to stare at longingly, especially to stare at someone who is eating in the hopes that they will share their food with you, or the person doing the staring. While it may seem pejorative, because really, you can't see or hear a word like groak without assuming that it has some really unpleasant connotations, it could apply equally to that friend who overstays their welcome and then has the nerve to expect you to feed them or you when a host makes a snack in front of you and doesn't even think to offer you any of it.

And as I didn't post last week, here is a word for something that is unlikely to tempt even the most hungry and stubborn of groaks: gralloch, or deer intestines.
