origin: (1665) → Italian: caffè= coffee, Sospeso= suspend

noun
A phrase translating to "suspended coffee", or the idea of paying for TWO cups of coffee, only drinking one, thus allowing another patron in need to later enjoy the other for free: quick BBC video on the subject.
