revet (r-vt), verb.
To face, shore up, or retain with a layer of stone, concrete, or other material.

Revetments along stream banks are used to prevent erosion.
You can also revet a barricade to help it withstand explosions.

Etymology:  early 1800s, from French revestir, to clothe again.
