A word I myself learned a few weeks ago:

che·mo·sis noun \kə-ˈmō-səs\ : swelling of the conjunctival tissue around the cornea; conjunctival edema.

Etymology: from Greek chēmē, a yawning, the cockle (from its gaping shell)
