Tuesday Word: ecesis

Ecesis is the successful establishment of a plant or animal in a new habitat. While there are plenty of thrilling accounts of ecesis occurring against all odds, or invasive species arriving on a foreign shore, timid and out of place, then taking the country by storm, I doubt any could compete with the strange tale of Geronimo the beaver. Read it. Memorize it. Subject the next person who tells you that history is dull to an overly detailed rendition. Get a tattoo of a beaver diving face-first out of a military helicopter, cigar clenched in its teeth. Refrain from suing me when your beaver-induced mania fades and you find yourself sobbing in the arms of a burly man with too many Sailor Jerry tattoos at two in the morning, wondering where it all went wrong.
