bricolage (brē′kō-läzh′, brĭk′ō-) noun
Something constructed using whatever is at hand.
For those of us who grew up in the 80s, "MacGyverism" would be a valid synonym.
The word has been used in many different fields; it could refer to music made using spoons, art using found objects, problem-solving using knowledge from unrelated disciplines, the close proximity of buildings with different architectural styles, etc.
Etymology: French, from bricoler, to putter about.
