This week's word comes with bonus words.

apomixis (ˌæpəˈmɪksɪs), noun
Reproduction without fertilization.

For example,
parthenogenesis:  an unfertilized egg developing into a new individual
parthenocarpy:  development of fruit without fertilization or seeds
apogamy:  in ferns, forming the sporophyte (spore-producing phase) without merging sperm and ova.

And to round it out, the opposite of apomixis is amphimixis, sexual reproduction.

Etymology:  Greek, apo-, away from, separate, + mixis, mingling.  (amphi- means 'both').
