sclerous (SKLEER-uhs, SKLER-uhs) - adj., hard, firm, bony.
Hard as bone is the most common sense, though since the sclera is the white outer layer of the eyeball, firm is definitely in its range. Coined around 1840 from Greek sklēros, hard.
