Palaver \pə-ˈla-vər\

(noun)
1. Talk, especially unnecessary talk, fuss, idle talk, misleading or beguiling speech
2. A meeting, conference, or discussion
3. A
long parley usually between persons of different cultures or levels of sophistication
4. (informal) A disagreement

(verb)
1. To discuss

Etymology
Originally nautical slang, from Portuguese palavra (speech), from Late Latin parabola (parable, speech)

Moving into a new house with an HOA I expected a certain amount of disagreement of ideas among neighbors' palaver, but it seems our community has just undergone a hostile coup in which those who want to plant grass in common areas have been ousted by those who want to xeriscape.
