A holy place or object.

From the Old English halig meaning holy and the suffix -dom refering to a state or condition.

"Indy held the chalice to his lips and received an enraged roar from the tribesmen behind him. To them the chalice was a halidom but to Indy it was simply a tool with which to drink and quench his thirst."
