Originally nautical slang, from Portuguese palavra (“‘speech’”), from Late Latin parabola (“‘parable, speech’”)
Moving into a new house with an HOA I expected a certain amount of disagreement of ideas among neighbors' palaver, but it seems our community has just undergone a hostile coup in which those who want to plant grass in common areas have been ousted by those who want to xeriscape.
