pettifogger \PET-ee-fog-ur\, noun

Definition:
1. A petty, unscrupulous lawyer; a shyster.
2. A person who quibbles over trivia.

Example:
Laura was getting tired of her boyfriend always being a pettifogger. Who cares how many times the word "lost" is actually said during the show?

Origin:
Pettifogger is probably from petty + obsolete fogger, "pettifogger."
