Definition:
(often cap.) a volume of articles, essays, etc., contributed by many authors in honor of a colleague, usually published on the occasion of retirement, an important anniversary, or the like.

Example:
Professor Riddy's colleagues were secretly preparing a festschrift to mark her 60th birthday. At last the big day came, and, naturally, the professor was delighted by the hard work of all of her writing students.
