Just because I like the way it sounds:

widdershins  (wid-er-shinz)

adverb

in a direction contrary to the natural one, esp. contrary to the apparent course of the sun or counterclockwise: considered as unlucky or causing disaster (due to emphasis on the sun in early forms of religion, with exceptions)

Etymology: Middle Low German weddersinnes, from Middle High German widersinnes,  from Old High German widar + sinnen to travel, go;
date: 1513 or 1545

Chiefly Scottish

Variants: withershins (with-er-shinz)

Usage:

After the calamitous collapse of his marriage, the failure of his business and the need for root canal, all within six weeks, Ian had to wonder if his bad luck was due to his habit of walking widdershins around the sun dial sculpture in front of his office building.

P.S.  I found this interesting article while surfing the 'net for interesting words.
