From the Latin saltare meaning  jumping about, dancing.

Usage:
“Sophie watched as the spiders went from pylon to pylon, their movement sudden and saltigrade. Enough was enough she thought, finally recalcitrant to Howl’s orders. She hit at the spiders with her broom, anything that could leap further than she could was definitely out of the question.”
