Etymology: a Russian word, upitany (упитанный). In no way related to 'uppity'.
This probably doesn't count as an English word, just a Russian word that shows up occasionally. I saw it most recently in a collection of food-inspired essays from the New York Times. Google then led me to a description of traditional Russian beauty as "rumiana, upitanna, bezbrova" (rosy-cheeked, stout, and browless).
I don't recall Bujold using this word in her Vorkosigan novels, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's there; the men of Barrayar have a fondness for women who can weather a small famine.
