In case you haven't seen tonight's "supermoon", this word was chosen to avail another opportunity to view a cosmic effect -- Annular Solar ‘Ring Of Fire’ Eclipse (May 20, 2012). If you do not fall into the direct path [map], a partial eclipse can still be visible. A warning though, some say Nostradamus predicted major earthquakes that day, which would also coincide with another ancient Mayan/Mesoamerican belief in the return of Quetzalcoatl! Oh yes, and protect your eyes.

I remain bummed that I'll be just outside the annular zone. I've never managed to catch any annular eclipse, between location, travel, or weather.

It may not be feasible, but they do nifty tours around annular eclipses. However, I had to smirk at one with the caveat that you may not ditch the tour after the solar event (or attempt to pay only for that portion).

The first solar eclipse I can recall happened when I was in the 3rd grade, and my school was petrified that any of us would look out the window. They were taped up! And the boy who dared to try anyway, by peeling the tape, was sent to the principle's office, after a lecture from the teacher of how he would feel if she was stuck with the burden of his blindness (she was sincere, but it was a bit mellow-dramatic). I desperately wanted to look, but not upset my kind teacher.
